Alternative remedies for depression and fatigue?
Can anyone recommend a remedy for depression; I suffer also from chronic fatigue.
I did try St John’s Wort - it didn’t help at all, alas.
My diet is very healthy; I don’t smoke, don’t do drugs, and don’t drink.
Many thanks for your help.
I exercise regularly. Also, to those people who keep suggesting Jesus and prayer - thanks, but I’m not a Christian…!
Good for you - diet’s very important.
I find meditation/yoga very helpful; and I know lots of people who rave about Indian head massage.
Incidentally, I noticed your other question: please don’t try St Johns Wort again whilst you’re on the other pills, the two mix very badly.

may seem old school, but fresh air and sunshine. i read that u suffer from chronic fatigue, so take a nap outside in the sunlight. many times, a person’s depression could be less severe if they increased their intake of vitamin D (the one that controls moods) and this vitamin just happens to actually be IN the suns rays. sounds kooky… but eh… guess its not.

you said your diet is healthy-but do you exercise? I noticed about myself that when I don’t exercise I don’t feel so good-mentally & physically. Also, how long have you been feeling this way? If only for a short period of time, then your hormones might be doing something funky & your body needs to adjust. But please consult a physician if this is an ongoing thing!
God Bless!

This may seem an odd solution for fatigue, but sometimes exercise can make you feel better.
If you can go to the gym and do gentle exercise it can make you feel better.
Swimming is an excellent way of exercising.
It may also help with your depression because it will release endorfins into your body.

I would make a couple of suggestions. There may be a few reasons that you are suffering from fatigue and depression. In fact, they feed off one another.
For your fatigue, I would recommend a product that is called B-Pro. It is a bee complex that also contains Protein. It gives you energy to last all day and into the evening, with out keeping you up at night. You just take 1 teaspoon, mix it in 8 oz of water and drink twice daily. I use it every day. I can’t even think of attempting to make it though the day with out it.
For your depression, I would have to say that you should notice a huge improvement just by taking the B-Pro. But if you want to help it along, you could take Evening Primrose. Evening Primrose is for the central nervous system, Mental depression and nerve acids.
I believe that these 2 products will help you to over come your depression and fatigue.
I have posted the links below so that you can get a detailed desciption of their ingredients, properties and uses.

Depression is a very serious mental disorder which can lead into physical pain which may include fatigue.
The best way to cope with depression is to talk to councelor, so they may help you unravel what is happening inside of you that makes you feel depressed.

I don’t really know what St. John’s Wort is, so I’m sorry if one of my suggestions is covered by that.
I suffered from depression for a loooong time. I went to counselors, psycholigists and saw my doctor about it all the time. Sometimes medications or just talking about it would make me feel better, but sooner or later I’d be back where I started.
I finally when to an actual psychiatrist. Once she knew me well enough she perscribed me with different medications. It took a while to find the right match and it was really frustrating, but it finally worked. It’s a little expensive but if you feel like your life is being controlled by your emotions then it’s worth it. There might be stuff going on in your life that’s making you depressed or you might just have a chemical inbalance.
Chronic fatigue goes hand in hand with depression a lot, so I guess the best thing you can to is to figure out what’s going on with your mind and body. Hang in there!

Unfortunately you are unlikely, as you are discovering, to get any real benefit from alternative, or as the PC brigade like to call them ‘complimentary’ therapies.
If you are in trouble start with your GP I am sure he/she will be understanding.

First of all believe in yourself

For the depression, try taking a vitamin d supplement or spending at least an hour in the sun everyday. Also there is an amino acid called l-tryptophan, this will help with depression, it has been used for years, and even prescribed by doctors in some instances. You can get it at a health food store. It is a bit expensive, but it WORKS!!!
For energy, take a multivitamin for your specific sex(man or woman) and also take an extra b complex. this will help with energy and depression. B complex are specifically important for women, especially as we get older through or late twenties and beyond.
Soybeans are a great source of energy protein, buying frozen or fresh soybeans and steaming them are very tasty and very good for you, great energy booster.
Oftentimes chronic fatigue can be a side effect of the depression.
if you have a best friend, can you really talk to them about your true self. Try to create thinsg for yourself todo that makes you happy.
We all are beautiful beings on a journey, love laugh and live
Good luck and bless

Contrary to the dinosaur view, you will get help from alternative remedies - and it is ALTERNATIVE & not complEmentary Dr Frank!! (Why does he insist on answering questions he has no knowledge or experience of?). Please try Homoeopathy - go to http://www.homeopathy-soh.org where you an find a practitioner local to you who WILL be able to help you. The process of treatment is complex - not something you can do yourself or look up in a book! It takes years of training & experience to be a good homoeopath. I treat a lot of depression with excellent results - no nasty side effects - just cure is enough for me!

Multi-vitamins + Omega’s are very helpful. I know from personal experience. Simce I’ve been taking them I have noticed a big difference (although it’s gradual & very subtle).
I take a multi-vitamin (these are usally signs of B defciency)+ hemp oil capsules (for omega 3,6,9) but u can take 7 Seas cod liver oil but fish oils only have 3 & 6 I think).
I also take magensium in the morning on an empty stoamch.
calcium is also very good as it’s relaxing.
For depression, sunlight is very good & if that’s not available an S.A.D. lightbox is also good. I don’t know of any natural remedies for depression. But this is a list of healing foods for depression:

There’s a herb called Sutherlandia which is supposed 2 b very powerful for treating chronic fatigue & also other things like depression & anxiety & stress. Please see link below:

sorry couldn’t be of more help,
xxChoo
PS> I used 2 have ME & I have heard from a very good doctor that this is metaphysically caused by a person or people or even a situaion demanding too much resposiblity from you & for example expecting you to deal with everything. naturally this owuld drain ur energy & deplete u of vitality.
it had happened to me & i detached & removed myself from the situation & I recovered.
also, (please forgive me if this is irrelevant 2 ur question)stand up 4 urself & don’t let people walk al over you as this can cause depression.

Ask yourself what it is that you want out of life.
Once you know, simply work towards it.
Your problem seems to be a lack of enthusiasm and direction in your life.
Sort that out, and the rest will automatically fall into place.
I wish you well.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and meditation. Watch comedies and funny things (but not silly), choose intelligent comedy. Avoid violence on TV.
Trust your higher self to heal you. Connect with your higher self and recognize that the world is beautiful and things happen for a reason. Take walks in nature and let trees and nature recharge your energies. Breathe in light and exhale the darkness. See the beauty in everything, including yourself.
PS: I tried St. John’s Wort for OCD, but didn’t help either and occasionally gave me heart racing.

Bergamont essential oil is really good for depression. As for the chronic fatigue I am not really sure, are the two linked? Have you tried having a massage or reflexology treatments are a good way to feel good and if you have an aromatherapy massage they should choose good uplifting oils. going out in the sun is supposed to be really good although if you live in the uk that is a bit hard at the moment. hope any of this helped.

Exercise is the best way to beat the blues and sunshine…. You can get those sun lamps and using it everyday for 20mins or so can lift your mood. Personally ive never used one but i have been told to get one… I exercise 3 times a week and my life is so much happier now in doin so. … Laughter is also a good way to make you feel light and happy , so do have a laugh, if not ,do something you enjoy where you get a buzz form it.

I assume you have had a consultation with your doctor. Many medical conditions that are easily treated will have this presentation eg anaemia, hypothyroidism. Get a blood test and a once over to make sure you are healthy.
I think aromatherapy massage is excellent for lifting the mood as long as you use a good therapist and can allow yourself to relax into the massage. You may well find a lifting of mood and a tendency to sleep better and therefore feel less fatigued.
Do make sure you are well, though.

Try EFT (Emotional Freedom Techinques). You can download a free instruction manual and it consists of tapping on a few accupuncture points on your body. I practice it and it’s good for many different things such as stress, anger, depression, guilt etc. Good luck. http://www.emofree.com/articles/accuracy-series.htm

"The Natural Treatment (Prevention and Cure) for…
Depression" > scroll down to:
How to Prevent and Cure Depression
Depression is caused by many things in our diet, but three things stand head-and-shoulders above all the rest:
1) Aspartame (e.g. NutraSweet, Equal, etc.),
2) Sugar,
3) Anti-depressant drugs (technically not in our diet)
http://www.natural-treatment.info/
On that ^ Web site, are 3 links to seperate articles about how to deal with depression caused by those 3 mentioned things.
It also helps a LOT to hold a positive outlook,
but you might have to fight in order to establish one.
http://watchtower.org/e/20040422/article_03.htm
One needs to keep things in their life simple, to have –or develop– a good sense of self-worth, & to tend to their spiritual needs.
http://watchtower.org/e/20040201/article_01.htm
Even those who claim to not be religious have spiritual needs, whether aware of them or not. Studies have proven that those who are spiritually active are actually healthier, & bounce back quicker when they do fall ill.
Having hope is a must for those suffering depression. Without it, depression’s negativity will not go away.
http://watchtower.org/e/20040422/article_03.htm
So, the firt step needs to be, getting rid of the causes of the depression. Quit getting deeper into it, by adding to it. Then… Figure out how to climb out –& stay out– of it!
One or more drugs might help for awhile, but eventually will begin to add problems.
Exercise is essential for overall health, & definately aidds in relieving depression.
http://watchtower.org/library/g/2005/5/22/article_01.htm
Hospitals have found that gardening is wonderfully therapeutic for patients, as well! But some are extremely sensitive to chemicals, so organic is the wise course to follow.

Try clay…it is a great remedy, it helped my chronic fatigue, too…you need to be a non-alcoholic and stick to a vegetarian diet…it is a sort of powder…you buy it in Naturistic shops…you put it in your tea, stir using a wooden spoon and drink it…at the beginning, you won’t feel much better, but if you keep taking it, you will feel better…I take it for 3 years and it is a great supplementary nutriment…it finds your weak organs and stick to them, healing or treating them…I hope you find and try it. You have to find the thing which makes you happy. The thing which causes you to forget the time. Because that is the thing which energises and heals. Forget what you ’should’ be doing; what is expected of you, figure out what it is that can make you lift your head and realise that lunch was three hours ago.
Also, spirulina. Have a jug of spirulina smoothie in the fridge, and every time you pass it, have a slug.
