St John’s Wort, Omega 3’s and S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAM-e) are all used for depression, however don’t just buy these at any drug store or Wal-Mart because the quality isn’t there, you need to purchase from a reputable health food store to get the purist form available.

fish oil is an excellent remedy to fight depression. If you take St. John’s and you are currently taking other medications, make sure that it will not interfere with your current medications. You can ask that question to your local health store.

St. John’s Wort seems helpful for mild, or possibly moderate, depression. Research is being conducted into the role of omega-3 oils for treatment of depression and bipolar disorder. Certain fish, especially salmon, are a good supply of omega 3. If you’re vegetarian, you can take omega 3 capsules, especially flax seed oil. If you google for "omega 3 foods," you can find lots of information about foods that contain lots of omega 3.
One of the more promising supplements I have been reading about for treating depression is 5-HTP. It is similar to tryptophan but apparently more effective.
Folic acid and the B vitamins in general might have some antidepressant qualities. The same could be said for the amino acids
phenylalanine, tyrosine, GABA and theanine.
I suffered from major depression for many years. I tried psychotherapy plus myriad diets and supplements, along with acupuncture, herbs,
biofeedback, etc. You name it; I tired it. At least in my case, one of the best remedies for depression is exercise and some form of relaxation or meditation. In terms of supplements, the most promising seem to be 5-HTP and omega-3 oils.
I suggest you avoid SAM-e. I belong to a support group for people with mood disorders. Many people, including myself, spent loads of money on SAM-e and were very disappointed with the results.
If possible, try to find a doctor or other professional in alternative medicine who knows a lot about natural remedies for depression. Be careful though. My experience is that lots of alternative health practitioners mean well, but their results with depression are not very good. Of course, if your depression is mild, you might have more success than I did. Best wishes.

St. John’s Wart is a herb and herb’s force the body to do thing. In this case its trying to use medicine’s fable about brain chemistry. Of course, no one can show you any scientific evidence - where is the test to show if this is really the problem.
The body can become deficient in many things that can cause depression. I would start with Omega 3 fish oil as it is usually an essential fatty acid deficiency. Many drugs deplete the body of essential fatty acids.
Get a good brand with high EPA/DHA and take what they recommend.
Increase every three days until you get a positive change and stay at that amount.
If by some chance this doesn’t work, find a good nutritionist who can test you for deficiencies.
