What are some good brain (legal) foods and herbal remedies to help with mild depression or positive attitude?

Just looking for natural foods, herbs, etc. that are known to help one’s general mood, positive attitude and general outlook. I have heard that St Johns Wort is pretty common for this…anything else?

As far as feel good foods go, look for foods high in tryptophan and omega-3 fatty acids. These provide a substrate for the generation of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, which can figure in significantly to moods. While neither of these is a treatment option perse, they might make you feel a little better. Foods that have these include milk, bananas, turkey, tuna, salmon, and a fair number of grains.

As for herbs, research suggests that they’re pretty hit or miss, depending on the individual. In particular, it suggests that a lot of "herbal" remedies may be more placebo effects than actual therapies. I’d stick to a solid diet and exercise for feeling good before trying herbals.
