What are some natural remedies that work for mild depression?

I have mild depression and I don’t want to take prescription meds. I know they help some people but I want to try some natural remedies.

Which remedies/herbs/vitamins work well?

St Johns Wort is a very good herb for depression and works well.

It would also be worth trying to find out what might be causing the depression.

Maybe you could get a book on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which would help you to understand all the different reasons why we can feel depressed and it would also show you new patterns of thinking and behaviour to help deal with your depression.

The Feeling Good Handbook is one of the best books for this.

Before you even start taking anything at all…try basic meditation!

It really works wonders, I started doing it at the suggestion of a friend when I was experiencing mild anxiety. I now meditate every day for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes and it changes my whole outlook.

Find a quiet place to sit, and in the beginning just close your eyes, breath through your nose and out your mouth do the best you can to relax all of your muscles and sit in a position that allows you to reach this physical relaxation. Once you have your body relaxed try to clear your mind of thoughts both good and bad by counting or creating a number pattern. Every time a wandering thought pops up, start the coutning over again.

It’s sounds lame or ineffective, but it beats spending money on crap that may or may not work. In my experience I find that I am more patient, and optimistic after I meditate ( in the morning for me but whatever time is most convenient for you.) Eventually you will look forward to this time and it becomes a source of happiness for you.

I don’t know your feeling on the matter but truthfully I recommend weed. It really does help with things like depression and anxiety. I’m not saying make it a habit, not that there is anything wrong with smoking a lot of weed but trust me weed will help. But try it only if you feel comfortable, don’t be pressured to try it or anything. Everything you need to know can be found on this site: erowid.org

Carotenoid Complex. It’s a very very powerful antioxidant, but for some reason it has the ’side effect’ of lifting depression.
