Take a multivitamin, look for something that is high in B-complex, this vitamins(b-complex) if taken in a balance dose helps to relax you and relieves stress.

Also try 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) they really works.

Exercise also relieves stress and releases tension. It can improve blood circulation, thus releases toxins which may trigger depressions.
Try jogging and brisk walking, it is a good start for healthy living.

When you are down you can have a bite of chocolate. Studies shows that there is a chemical thing in a cocoa that triggers the release of endorphins. This is a natural chemical in the body that makes a person happy. Expert recommend to take eat the chocolate with darker color (not the white) because they are rich in this chemical.

Take a warm bath every night before sleeping it helps to sooth you.

When sleeping you can light scented candles or ar aromatic oils also. It can relax you more. Try scents like rosemary.

But if you are into herbs you can try them as well.
Some have done wonders to other people.
But you have to consult an expert about herbs on how to use them and what should not be taken together with them.

Your depression and anxiety may be linked to a blood sugar condition. If your doctor has not ruled out hypoglycemia or metabolic condition, you may want to get checked out for that.

I would suggest a different doctor. Find one that is more sympathetic to natural remedies.

Various studies have have linked depression with low levels of B vitamins, especially B’s 6,9, and 12. Some amino acids like SAMe also seem to be effective.

You may have read about herbs like Devils Claw [found mainly in S Africa] that are touted to help depression and arthritis. I would stay away from this one as people with gallstones or ulcer problems can react negatively.

You have to be careful though as some of those drugs you are on might react poorly with some supplements. So, in the meantime a daily program of either meat or fish along with some dark leafy vegetables would be a start in the the right direction. Also, if applicable, cut back on alcohol and smoking .

When and ONLY when you are ready for good supplementation go to the link below to jump start your health.

There are good herbal treatments for depression but you must really be under the care of a qualified naturopathic physician or psychiatrist to use them, as there are a number of possible side effects and/or drug interactions that one must know about.

As far as non-drug treatments go, nothing is better than regular exercise that causes you to break a sweat. You should be exercising at least 3 times a week.

Diet also plays a large part in mood disorders. Stay as far away from sugar and caffeine as you can, as these make the problem worse. DO eat as many whole grains [great source of B vitamins] and green leafy vegetables [also great source of B vitamins] and as many fresh vegetables and fruits as you can with a bit of animal protein thrown in to the mix [beef, butter, cheese, etc].

And, one that should be obvious but sometimes isn’t — get a good night’s sleep! People who run their bodies on empty just do not have the stamina to withstand life’s various stresses.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I am not surprised and congratulations on seeing the light. Did you know that in Germany that about 50% of prescriptions for depression and anxiety are for a herbal remedy called St. John’s Wort while those for Prozac are for about 2% ! Well, the Germans have seen the light - shame about the rest of the world as more and more zombie like figures shuffle through their daily life and never get any REAL help in solving their depression and anxiety. It is an epidemic. I have written loads of articles on this , partly because I went through the whole thing myself.
