Are there any natural remedies for depression? B/c I sometimes forget to refill my depression meds,?

And so my parents say I’d be better off the meds or taking a natural thing..? But will I feel less depressed then?

If you are supposed to be on meds…it is really bad to stop and start…they build up in your system…not like Tylenol…take it it works, stop it’s gone…some natural remedies may effect you like a drug interaction…so check with your doc…but in some countries they don’t prescribe expensive, dangerous meds…they use st. johns wort…talk to your dr. before you switch…for how to stop your meds…should be a little at a time, and how long til you can start vitamin.

    Consider this
    All behavior is purposeful.
    Forgetting is a behavior.

This from Alfred Adler. Though from two different works, as far as I know he never combined the two statements to make such a powerful assertion, but I think he would approve. If not I will accept blame for this.

You do not forget to refill your meds, you forget nothing of this magnitude. It is dangerous and counterproductive to let yourself go off your meds for lack of a refill. Why do you allow this? What is the purpose of this behavior?

There are varying degrees of depression, if you are told that your depression is severe and you are not receiving therapy other than chemical, find another doctor, if the person prescribing these meds is not a psychiatrist seek out a referal, if it is a MD who is not a psychiatrist who is prescribing, says your depression is severe and refuses to write a referral, get another doctor. You may be better off without the meds but it is dangerous to quit without supervision if your depression is severe ( you cannot judge that for yourself). If your anti-depressent is a mild one you may be better off without it but good old fashioned therapy is still indicated. Take charge, research your own condition, eat right, seek the good.

Be careful with St, Johns Wort it causes light sensitivity and caused me (or at least contributed) to get skin cancer.

If you think the medications are actually helping you, make sure that you get them filled regularly. If your not sure how well they are helping you and want to try something else, you may want to go to an herbal store and ask them what they recommend for depression. There are herbs that can help. You must be able to make that decision if the medication is not helping you. Good luck!

How much any particular treatment (i.e. medication or natural treatment) depends on the individual. There has been a lot of promising studies about Omega 3 (fish oil) for helping with depression. Also B vitamin complex, Magnesium, and Folic Acid…all of which can be found in a good multivitamin, but you might want to take an additional B vitamin complex along with the multivitamin. Although I would not go off of my antidepressant without first consulting the prescribing physician first.

5-htp will help increase serontonin but it/s risky since theres no way to measure how much you need. half life on your med is 12 hours. So its not like as soon as you stop taking it you need same amount of serotonin right away.

I dont know anything that does the norepinephrine stuff.
