How can I overcome short term depression from losing a Job?
How do I overcome my depression from loss of a Job (well paying) and can’t get the quality and salary and benefit like I used to in this kind of market?
Ever had one of THOSE days? You know the kind … the one that feels like it will never end! You’re depressed and you don’t know why, or perhaps you do. But regardless, either way, you need to kick that lousy mood! You need to regain control of your emotions for yourself and for those around you. If you have been in a severe depression for an unhealthy amount of time, you may need to seek the advice of a professional. But if you simply have a case of the blues, here are a few ideas to help you get over the hump. Try any or all of these to get you smiling again.
1. Go shopping!
Buying something nice for yourself will perk you right up. Or sometimes buying something special for someone else will do even more!
2. Dance, Dance, Dance!
Put on some fast music and burn off that negative energy. Run through the house, jump, roll and twirl! Pretend to be a ballerina or perhaps even a rock star.
3. Scream!
Bury your face in a pillow and let it all out. Speak your mind and release those bent up emotions. This can be an eternal cleansing process.
4. Write it down!
Get out that pen and paper or jump on the computer and release all of your frustrations!
If you are upset with a particular person, write them a detailed letter saying so and then burn it when you are feeling better. Try creating a poem or song about it. Write a story where you are the main character and you are vindicated in the end. You can express your anger on paper without ever really hurting anyone. You will usually feel a sense of relief when you are done and may begin the process of forgiving them.
5. Cry!
Go ahead … snott and blubber for a bit. Clean out your system, wash your face … and then go shopping.
6. Exercise.
It is a proven fact that exercise can increase blood flow, speed up metabolism and increase energy. All of these factors can help you to feel like your old self again.
7. Talk.
Call up a friend whom you can trust and spill your guts. Share all of your problems with them. They may even be able to offer you some helpful advice. And if not, just being able
to share with your feelings with another human being usually helps.
8. Indulge!
Treat yourself to that Hot Fudge Sunday! While overeating can pose problems, there is nothing wrong with an occasional splurge. Just be responsible and use good judgment.
9. Laugh!
Turn on a comical show or find someone to tell you a good joke. Have someone tickle you or try to recall a funny experience you have had in the past.
10. Pray!
Get down on those knees and talk to the man upstairs. Sometimes you will feel a release when you begin to actually talk about what is bothering you. Also, this takes the burden off of you … after all, your "Dad" has to deal with it now.
I hope some of these will get you back to normal. And remember … This too shall pass!

Salti’s suggestions are pretty good.
I say, let yourself feel depressed for a little while. Losing a job is a major life event. Its a big blow to your confidence, and can be just as bad as breaking up with a romantic partner. Its natural and healthy to feel upset about that. Trying to deny or repress your feelings about it will complicate things.
Take some time off and do things that make you happy. Give yourself some space, and think about it when you feel comfortable. Talk to others and try to understand what happened objectively. If you made mistakes, you’ll learn from them and move on.

It is a lesson, most of us are going thru. There is greater lessons to be learned, in the grand scheme of things. What do you need, what do you really need. How to survive on less. How to live withn your means. developing compassion for those without.
You may be moving to a better job. Maybe same or more money, maybe not. But maybe there are other skills you need to develop.
I had a decent paying job, but it was taken from me, in the grand scheme of things, it came down to God didn’t want me sitting in a box. I was to be out among people, talking, developing sales and negotiating skills. I may not know the reason for ten years.
Sometimes just have to go with the flow, have faith.
We all get moved around, wether we like it or not. Sorry to hear about your discomfort during your time of transtion and change. Chnage and uncertainity are uncomfortable especially when money is concerned.
You will be stronger when it is done.

Start to actively look for another job.. make cold calls to big companies.. meaning you phone them and ask if there is an opening.. also look on the internet.. look for jobsites such as jobseekers direct, job monster or workopolis and sign up with one or some of them.. send your resume there it will be on display…do it on computer.. to look on the internet for a job you are more likely to find a job than through the papers because the jobs could be gone by the time they are published.. if you have a friend or anyone who has connections.. try to ask them if they can make inquiries at their workplace and let you know if there are openings.. for your type of work because some companies only advertise internally.. in their company.. but if you have some connection and know a person who can recommend you for an interview you got one foot in the door… if you make it to an interview.. you have come halfway already…don’t give up if you don’t succeed right away.. work on your resume.. and bring it up to date.. and also find some time to relax..do something enjoyable but don’t give up looking your depression is due to self esteem lost as you lost your job.. once you find work again.. you will be alright you don’t need medication.. This is temporary depression caused by financial worries and by at present feeling your confidence lacking as you are unemployed.. Keep on looking and keep on persevering…
