What do you do to overcome depression and anxiety?
I have been depressed for some time now. What can i do to relive symptoms of depression?
Social anxiety can cause these feelings, which can also lead to severe depression,

if not you could be suffering from Generalized Anxiety
Disorder..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/general_anx…
There is hope; I’ve been there, and still am there, it is a long, hard struggle. I recommend
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b… worked best for me, with mild anti-anxiety meds. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I’ve tried individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.
Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.
Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.
The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: http://www.socialanxiety.us/findinghelp…. and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.
I recommend a mild anti-anxiety med in addition to CBT therapy.
Any questions, let me know … I can’t tell you how much this has improved my life!

well for starters you might need to go to the doctor and see if you need medication. Also though it sounds easier said thatn done when you have depression, get out and get some sunshine and maybe go for a walk or a bike ride that always helps. Maybe get some talk therapy as well. good luck

Well first of all I am a depression survivor.
When I was 14 and I started high school I fell into a trance and then it was with ups and downs of my mood. Like I would be okay sometimes then sometimes in the afternoon I would be like crying, feeling worthless, upset, etc. I told my parents to get me help but they always said, "It’s a phase and it will pass". Not true. I was this way for about the whole school year, then when I got my learners permit in the summer, I started going to drug dealers to get Opium pills. So I took those for a while, then I started injecting Heroin to escape reality. When my sophomore year started, I was going to school in the mornings then in the afternoons/weekends I would be sedated on the heroin.
Then one day I just had it with my life and drank alot of whisky and mixed it with a heroin injection, and then I remember waking up in the hospital a few weeks later from a coma. Then I told my parents that I had a problem and they finally listened. I was in a Narcotics Anonymous program and talking to a counselor for many months until I felt fine again.
So my suggestion to you is that you need to talk to someone about it and if they say, "It’s a phase". You will need to be assertive and say something like, "Why don’t you listen to me, you apparently don’t care!, It’s not a phase! It won’t pass unless I get help!" And if they refuse to help, talk to a counselor, trusted individual that you can talk to this about.
Depression doesn’t heal itself, you need to get help before you turn to something like I did.

Sunlight, fresh air, a clean home/room, taking care of your health with exercise, and not thinking about yourself. If that doesn’t work resort to a therapist and medications or herbal remedy.

Medication - Sometimes it is just a chemical imbalance
Therapy - Helps you with methods on how to deal with your depression, even if it isn’t caused by environmental factors.
Light Therapy - Light can really help, your Doctor may have a light in his office you can use for light therapy.
Exercise - No matter what kind of depression or anxiety you have, this has been proven to help dramatically.
Those are the kind of non-drastic therapies out there. Sometimes you have to get into really strong meds, intensive therapy, surgeries etc.
